Snapshots: Recollections from my Memory
A series of short stories and vignettes from my years of teaching memoir classes. Each story is a snapshot of my life. They are all true stories, based on true events, but liberties have been taken with dialogue, timing, and some description. They are based on my PERCEPTION of how the event unfolded, as a true memoir snapshot should be.
Becausethe stories are all mine, and all based in truth, they may not all be "pretty" stories. Nobody's life is a bed of roses. These recollections are fun, sad, and sometimes harsh, but they are mine.
Available in both ebook an paperback formats: Snapshots

Memoir: Do You Have All Your Parts?
This is my personal story. It delineates my journey through various medical situations I have experienced. In no way do I wish to imply that I have had more serious or debilitating medical challenges than others have. This is my story, some of it very personal and some of it I have never shared with anyone. My purpose in writing this is simply to put it out there that we can be confronted by many kinds of challenges, yet we can prevail over them and still lead productive lives. While it is important to acknowledge our medical issues, we do not need focus on them or let them define our lives. They happened, sometimes they were hard, but we prevailed.

Reviews:
As a medical professional I have spent 10 years learning about the human body. Janie’s book, “Do You Have All Your Parts?” Is entertaining, educational and a provocative read. After reading this amazing book you will get a sense of how strong the human spirit is; and how we can endure and overcome a negative mindset in losing any parts of our bodies. I encourage anyone who is struggling with medical issues to read this book because the author reveals her strength, faith, love and a higher level of thinking that will give you the tools on how to be mentally strong with any medical challenges in your life.

Having lost a few parts along my life journey too, I thoroughly enjoyed Janie Sullivan’s new book.
I just finished reading Janie Sullivan’s new memoir, Do You Have All Your Parts? This delightful read gave me lots of laughs, some education on medical issues, and an inside glimpse of the personal life of the author. I’ve been saying for years that growing older is not for wimps. but Janie Sullivan reminds us through her journey of losing and gaining parts that if faced with a positive and can-do attitude, even the most dramatic events, cannot only be survived but celebrated ~ Sheila Embry, PhD |
Great Read About Attitude and Medical Outcomes
I received the Sullivan Book "Do You Have all Your Parts?" from Amazon a few days ago. A great read about the Medical Journey of Ms. Sullivan. For those wondering about multiple medical issues and how attitude affects them don't miss this personal journey. Loved it!! ~Irene Baldwin |
A fun, light-hearted read on a subject that some of us can certainly relate to.
Janie Sullivan has a way of putting some worrisome health issues into a manner that we can all understand and relate to. I, too, have had many of the same health problems and enjoyed a fresh look through another's eyes. I highly recommend Janie Sullivan's ' Do You Have All Your Parts?' If you are looking for a quick, uplifting, light-hearted read to take a break from your daily grind, this is the book for you. ~ Gloria Knight |
What my thoughts were as I read, "Do You Have All Your Parts?" by Janie Sullivan is that I could picture the two of us sitting in a 'future' lobby together...spending time chatting about our lives as a 'patient.'
The view in my mind is one of the two of us getting our hair done the old-fashioned way - you know the one, with curlers drying and our fingernails being polished while we chat. This is how comfortable I felt reading and relating to your book. While we have not had the same illnesses, the experiences have been so similar that I continually shook my head, "yes," or 'no" relating more often than not. The answer to your book's question is: "no" - I do not have all my body parts; and this is just a fact, not a complaint. Thanks for writing this book and being brave enough to be vulnerable so that others can also feel better and stronger even if they have had a life of troubled medical conditions. The miracle is - you're stronger than ever. I look forward to reading your next book. ~VicToria Freudiger, Editor/Publisher |
Thought Provoking and Courageous. Having had many issues with my own "parts," Janie Sullivan's memoir made me think about my own experience in a new light. Serious medical issues are deeply personal and have the ability to completely transform our entire life. Sometimes the transformation can be positive, as in my own case. I take much better care of myself now and as a result, I am much healthier. More often than not, issues with our parts can leave us feeling vulnerable and alone. This book speaks to that, and shows us we are not alone. I admire Janie's courage in sharing such personal experiences. We are all unique, beautiful individuals, regardless of our "parts." A great read!
